Sailboat Retrospective Template
Sailboat retrospective — wind, anchors, rocks, and the island. Free to run online — live board, anonymous-friendly cards, dot-voting, timers, and action items that follow your team sprint to sprint.
🌬️ Wind (helped us)
⚓ Anchors (held us back)
🪨 Rocks (risks ahead)
🏝️ Island (goal)
A metaphor board: the wind that pushed you, the anchors that dragged, the rocks ahead, and the island you're sailing toward. The picture gets quieter teammates talking, and the 'rocks' column adds a risk lens most retros lack.
Best for: Mixed technical/non-technical groups, quarterly look-backs, and teams tired of the same three columns.
How to run it
- Open a board and share the invite link — teammates join free with Google or a one-time email code.
- Add cards to each column (5–10 minutes, timer built in), then dot-vote what matters most.
- Discuss the top votes and commit action items with owners.
- Next retro, the actions come back automatically — done, carry, or drop. That loop is the point.
